A home where traditional construction brings calm and comfort to daily life.
Set within the Central Bohemian countryside, this interior design study reinterprets the traditional Czech log house for contemporary living. Rooted in the character of the material and its surroundings, the design balances heritage with a modern architectural expression, creating a home tailored to the rhythms of everyday life.
The central concept of the design is a double-height living space that forms the natural heart of the home. Exposed timber construction, solid ceiling beams, and the rhythm of the log walls create a strong spatial identity, which is further developed through subtle interventions rather than bold contrasts. Natural light, generous volume, and visual connections between the different levels bring a sense of openness and establish a clear spatial hierarchy.
The material palette is based on a combination of timber, concrete, and softly neutral finishes. A polished concrete floor on the ground level transitions seamlessly into warmer and calmer surfaces upstairs, while bespoke joinery in muted tones complements the natural grain of the wood. The colour scheme is intentionally restrained, relying on warm beige tones and a carefully selected accent colour that appears in elements such as the kitchen island and selected wall surfaces. This approach creates visual continuity throughout the interior and reinforces the calm and welcoming atmosphere of the space.
The layout of the house is designed with clarity and functionality in mind. The social spaces on the ground floor flow naturally into the exterior and adjoining terrace, while the more private areas upstairs offer flexibility for a range of uses, from bedrooms to relaxation and workspaces. Subtle spatial division through lightweight partitions and elements such as timber slats maintains a sense of openness while clearly defining individual functions.
Natural light also plays a key role in shaping the interior. Large-format windows open the living spaces to the surrounding landscape and bring the changing atmosphere of the day indoors. Combined with natural materials, they create an environment that feels calm, authentic, and enduringly sustainable.
The interior design proposal for the log house in Ládeves demonstrates how traditional construction can serve as a foundation for contemporary living. Rather than imposing limitations, it offers a strong architectural framework for a home that is thoughtful, functional, and enduringly timeless.
